Routine Roundup

There’s this awful internet phrase called “humble brag,” which is as believable as “pleasant root canal,” “unwanted cash prize,” or “salt of the earth Donald Trump.” So instead of claiming this as humble, I’ll be overt and boast that I’m often asked about my skincare routine. It’s a difficult question to answer because my closet hath runneth over with serums, creams, potions, and lotions. I’m constantly experimenting, and my regimen changes daily. I know it seems like a lot — and it is. It has been my experience that skincare is this black hole that sucks you in on a never-ending pursuit to find the next best thing.

There are usually three days a month when I don’t bother to wash my face at night. I get tired and I’m human. But most nights I’m diligent and my skin has thanked me for it.

Product Roundup

Cleansers

  • Gly/Sal – daily brightening and pore-unclogging cleanser. Smells like Johnson & Johnson’s baby wash.
  • No Zit Sherlock – a salicylic wash I typically use at night. A supremely gentle acne cleanser.
  • Juice Cleansing Milk – a calming wash I use to remove makeup or cleanse without any drying or harsh ingredients
  • Boscia Cleansing Oil – another formula I use to remove makeup. It’s also super hydrating.
  • Oil Cleansing Method – see this post

Moisturizers

Special Treatments

  • Darphin Melaperfect – I’m testing this to spot treat minor acne scars
  • SKIN by Ann Webb – a daily antioxidant serum. It contains 15% L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C)
  • Avibon – direct from France, Avibon is a retinol ointment. Unlike other retinols, Avibon isn’t drying, and I love that it only contains five ingredients.

Eye Treatment

Masks

  • GlamGlow Super-Mud – My favorite luxury clay mask. It steeps pores using clay and alpha and beta hydroxy acids.
  • GlamGlow YouthMud – similar to Super-Mud, but is composed of volcanic ash
  • Aztec Secret – another clay-based mask that I mix with apple cider vinegar that tightens and smoothes skin. It’s super cheap and really effective.
  • Origins Drink Up – a moisturizing mask that is like a cup of water for skin.

Exfoliants

  • Exuviance – a 6-week chemical peel system that delivers 25% alpha hydroxy acids to eliminate dullness and brighten skin tone
  • Kiehl’s Mirco-Dermabrasion – an extremely exfoliating scrub

Sun

  • La Roche Posay – my favorite sunscreen. It’s super lightweight and with a matte finish.

  1. I don’t even own half these products. If you had to stick with only three, which ones would you choose?

  2. Andrea says:

One question: what dark spots?!?! Your skin is flawless. I suffer from melasma and am always on the hunt for hyper pigmentation treatments (I have tried ev-er-y-thing. Rx hydroquinone + retinol, fraxel, over the counter products, vitamins, you name it). Have you had any success with Melaperfect?

I’ve never tried that! Staying out of the sun and sun protection REALLY helps with hyperpigmentation too (but I’m sure you already know that)!
